Description

For an old fart like me, the LP style guitars I play need to be very light. My old shoulders just can't take 9+ pound LP's any more and I am quite fond of the slightly more woody sound that many chambered guitars offer. I also prefer my LP's with Gibson's newer Custom Bucker pickups, along with the many other improvements that the Custom Shop instituted starting back in 2013.

The Les Paul offered here meets all these requirements, plus it offers a relatively rare contoured neck heel as originally designed for Neal Schon and now found on Gibson's Axcess and Lifeson LP models.

I chose this beautiful chambered '58 Les Paul Reissue quite carefully. It has a gloss Ice Tea Burst finish with very nice flame in the top. It weighs just 7.4 pounds (7 pounds, 7 ounces) and is superbly balanced. The neck feels great to my hand and is not particularly large as '58 LP's go, with depth measurements of .92" at the first fret and 1.02" at the twelfth fret. The tone of the Alnico III zebra Custom Bucker pickups is woody, fat and clear with just the right output level. The playability of this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and the smooth heel contour of this unique model makes an already great LP even easier to play in the upper portions of the neck.

This guitar is brand spanking new and has only seen brief testing by me. I am not an authorized Gibson dealer so I cannot offer a manufacturer's warranty, but otherwise this is a new instrument. It comes in it's original brown Lifton-style reproduction case, with the certificate of authenticity and all the other paperwork.

This is the kind of LP I would take to the stage each night if I was a working man; one that is light in weight, sounds great, looks fabulous and is particularly easy to play. What more could one ask for?!
