I have been a fan of the Gibson SG Special for over 40 years, since the first time I watched a video of Santana's 1969 Woodstock performance of Soul Sacrifice. The fabulous biting overdrive tone that Carlos was able to coax out of his amp with those P-90 pickups is a sound that remains with me to this day. Offered here is a superb reissue of the original model, built in the Gibson Custom Shop in 2007. With it's thinly proportioned solid body and neck both made of mahogany, this guitar weighs just 6.8 pounds but feels even lighter. The neck has a relatively wide 60's C-shape, with depth measurements of .835" at the first fret, .900" at the twelfth, a 12" radius, 1.6875" wide nut and big "banjo" frets. It has a very simple, wrap around aluminum bridge piece with compensating notches for proper intonation. The P-90 pickups and the raw tones they generate are legendary. This one almost plays itself the setup is so good. This guitar has Gibson's lightly aged VOS treatment, but otherwise doesn't appear to have seen much play, as the frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original Gibson Custom case along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Just a great Custom Shop SG in all respects. It occurs to me, what a superb slide guitar this SG Special would make!
