Description

Offered here is an example of perhaps the pinnacle of the work of the Gibson Custom Shop as Les Paul reissues go, a 2016 True Historic '59 aged by, the one and only, Tom Murphy. As LP aficionados know, the Gibson Custom Shop True Historics with the hand-wet-sanded historically accurate finishes are no longer being manufactured - too expensive to produce, no doubt. Further, Edwin Wilson and Tom Murphy are said to be no longer with the company. Many say it is the end-of-an-era for Gibson. As such, examples of the full-blown 'True Historics', particularly those very few that have been hand-aged by finish guru Tom Murphy, as this guitar has, are likely to be highly sought-after in the years to come.

This very special instrument was built to Gibson's True Historic specifications, with assembly methods and a wet, hand-sanded finish which are true to the originals. It has a C-shaped neck with moderate shoulders and depth measurements of .900" at the first fret and 1.00" at the twelfth fret. This model gets pickups that have been wound to replicate the tone of the originals, including an 8.0K, Alnico III Burst Bucker in the neck position and an 8.5K, Alnico V Custom Bucker in the bridge position. This highly flamed, Faded Cherryburst example weighs just under 8.4 pounds (8 pounds, 5.8 ounces) and is nicely balanced!

As if this wasn't enough, this guitar is part of the special run that was aged by Tom Murphy himself. And what a job he has done on this magnificent guitar. I cannot imagine the amount of time that was taken to make this guitar look as authentic as it does. Even the Lifton-style reissue case is authentically aged by Gibson for this very special model. True Historic specs and Tom Murphy aging - all said, this instrument is about as close to a real vintage '59 LP as you can buy from Gibson.

You can tell why this guitar was selected to be aged by Tom Murphy as soon as you pick it up - it just feels right - the balance of the guitar and the shape of the neck are perfect. The setup is low and buzz free. The tone is just right too - just listen to the provided sound sample and I think you will agree.

This guitar has seen little, if any play since it's original purchase. The original strings were still on the guitar and the frets are flawless. It comes in it's factory-aged Lifton-style reissue case with the certificate of authenticity and all of the other paperwork.

Dealers got an astounding $11K for these new. This near new example of this now extinct model can be yours for thousands less. If you want the very best LP reissue that Gibson has ever made and you don't want to pay full price, here you go!
