Summary: This Flying V is one of Gibson’s “Designer Series” of limited-run custom finished guitars released for a short time in the mid-eighties. It sports style 31t, one of three special finishes available for Vs that year. It’s ivory finish with stylish pin-striping accentuates the V’s aggressive lines.

Body: Alder. Nitrocellulose finish, Designer Series style 31t (ivory with black and silver pin-stripes).

Neck: Medium C-shape with ebony fretboard and dot inlays.

Pickups/Hardware: Two uncovered humbuckers. Individual volume knobs, one master tone knob. Adjustable bridge with stop tail piece. Grover tuners.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in good shape with character-giving wear. The finish has yellowed with age, as these finishes tend to do, and has developed consistent vertical finish crazing that follows along the wood grain. There is general overall wear and worn spots on the headstock and on the body points, as well as a finish chip at the “i” of the “Gibson” logo.

Playability: An alder body makes this guitar lighter than your average V. The C shape neck is sturdy yet thin enough for fast runs, and the action is low with no fretting out or buzz. This guitar commands you to shred, with excellent upper neck access provided by the V cutaway shape.
