Herb Ellis, our hero, always got so much out of a single-pickup Gibson archtop, was all he needed. And he was great. The ES-165 is, in essence and in fact, an ES-175 with one pickup, a Humbucker, at the neck position, gives those warm, warm jazz tones that all you jazz guys love. This one is nearly twenty-five years old and in nearly pristine condition too. All beautifully set up here in our own shop with an .011-.050 set, with a wound G string, just like it’s sposeta be.
