I love black guitars and if I played archtops, I'd keep this mint 68 ES-175. It is, and has always been black. Black 175's had to be special ordered so they are rare. Black generally doesn't age very well but this one shows no wear, no dings, dents scratches or excuses. The finish has some very light checking but it's essentially the finish sinking into the wood which happens with nitrocellulose lacquer. It is, essentially, a new 1968 ES-175. The pickups appear to be pre-T-tops which is usual for 68. I don't know if the white guard is factory or not. It sure looks like it is. The original case is dead mint but it's the soft (cardboard) case. I have hard cases that will fit if you prefer. Has a mint Gibson strap and coil cord. Not much more to say...it's an excellent player. The nut is narrow at 1.58" and the depth is medium slim-.81" at the first fret and quite large (1") at the 11th (the 12th fret starts the heel so the measurement is huge). There is a slight rise to the fingerboard where it meets the body which nearly all Gibson archtops seem to develop over time. It plays well, so it's probably best left alone.
