This model's name is derived from its original asking price of $175. The guitar appears to be all original except for the nut. What appears to be the original plastic nut is inside the case compartment. For its age, this guitar is in excellent condition with the only notable defect is some minor cracking by the guitar's input jack. It also appears that some glue or other adhesive was used to fill in these cracks. Likely, a repair was done in this area and it's possible the input jack is not original. This model first appeared in 1949 as a single pickup guitar. In 1953 Gibson added a second pickup and the letter D in the model name. This guitar was offered in two finishes, natural or sunburst. The natural finish shown here on this guitar was the "more expensive" finish option. Hard shell case appears to be original.
