Description

How rare is this 1959 Gibson ES-295 in its original Argentine Grey finish?! We’ve been lucky enough to have a few instruments finished in this color, an older Gibson acoustic finish that made its way to a few guitars and basses in the late 50s/early 60s. It’s almost like Sunburst, but with a natural wood color in the middle, graduating into black around the perimeter. The ES-295’s design had a lot of input from its most famous player, Scotty Moore. It was Mr. Moore’s idea that the wiring layout in the switch’s middle position allowed either pickup to be turned completely off while the other pickup still came through.  Essentially, this makes the middle position a “blend” between the two PAFs. This scarce piece is a great player, with a ‘59 neck profile that feels great in hand.  This ES-295 remains in great shape, with just some weather checking and a professionally plugged, touched-up strap button hole at the neck heel. These PAFs sound incredibly clean but can also be pushed to distortion… don’t forget to use that middle position to blend! The pickup rings have been replaced with modern reproductions.

Overall Condition: 8.5, weather checking throughout and some playwear
