I was tempted to call this one near mint-it's pretty close but I generally try to under evaluate condition-that way everybody is pleasantly surprised. This is a very late 58-about as late as you can get. The last 58 serial is only 130 numbers later. This one shipped on December 13th, 1958. It is super clean and all original including the frets (which are the bigger 59 type). Hardly a mark to be found anywhere on this guitar. There is only some very minor checking in a few small areas and at the back of the neck-not all over the guitar. It is, of course, a thin top. It currently has its original tuners with shrunken tips. I can either re-tip them for you or put on repros and put the originals in the case. They work but they're fragile. PAFs, of course and a full height ABR-1. By late 58, the neck angle issue was pretty much resolved. The bridge still sits on the top but it does that in early 59 as well. This 58 has no cracks around the jack-most 58's do. Neck is big-.90" at the first fret and .99" at the 12th. Weight is 7 lbs 14 ounces. PAFs measure 8.32K bridge and 7.99K neck. The best 335 I ever played was a late 58 only a few numbers away from this one (and from the same rack T5971). This one is up there tone wise and is probably the cleanest 58 I've had. Exceptionally clean Gibson badged case.
