1964 Gibson ES-335 Red

This is an odd one for sure. It's a legit 64 ES-335 in stunningly clean condition but it was ordered as a trapeze (with stop tail studs as well). It's all factory but the filled holes at the end pin give it away. Those holes only line up to a trap tailpiece-never had a Bigsby. Serial says mid 64 as does the uncut center block so don't start thinking 65-it ain't a 65. Pot codes are 63. The issues are going to save you around five thousand dollars so pay attention. The tuners were changed to later Klusons -the kind that look like Klusons but mount like Grovers. A mint set of 64 single lines is on now with adapted bushings to accommodate the larger shaft holes. No extra mounting holes though. Pickups are original early patents-purple enamel coat wire like a PAF. The pickup covers have been off and are back on-no work done to the pickups-they have never been out of the guitar. All parts are vintage correct or original except the saddles (64's had nylon) and the tuner bushings. The guitar shows virtually no wear, only some moderate checking. Original frets in excellent condition. Everything black lights correctly (finish, pickup stickers, knobs and tape). Condition is 9+ and the case is just stunning. Neck profile is that wonderful big 64-starts fairly slim at just over .82" and gets up to just about a full inch by the 12th fret (that's big). Many 335 aficionados consider the 64 neck to be the best ever. If not for the oddball tailpiece anomaly I'd put this guitar well into the mid 30K's. Original case is the cleanest I've ever seen.
