Are these vintage yet? C'mon, it's nearly 40 years old and I know what it felt like to be 40. Those of you who read my blog at www.es-335.com know how much I like the 81-85 Norlin 335's. I'll take one of these over any 335 built from mid 69 through sometime in the mid 90's. They simply got these right. As a reissue they aren't anywhere near accurate if it's trying to be a 59 dot neck but they are still quite good and consistent. The Shaw pickups tend to be a little dark but there are plenty of ways around that (turn up the treble on your amp). The reason isn't actually the pickups, its the pots. They used 300K pots and they should have used 500K. A new harness is a good investment but even as is, it's a really excellent guitar. Three piece neck? Who cares. It's straight and its fat like a real 59. These have been relatively stable price wise for years and years and eventually the light is going to go on and they will start rising in value. It's pretty too. Nice all over flame and in 9+ condition. The case isn't original but its era correct-the handle has been replaced. Nice looking piece of rosewood for the fingerboard. All original except: I put an amber switch tip on it. The original white one is in the case. The bridge that came on these was a Nashville type. Good bridge but it looks wrong on a 335. It's been replaced with a Nashville spaced ABR-1 type. No extra holes so it can go back to stock. Nashville bridge is in the case too. These came with the heavy zinc stop tails. I swapped that out for a lightweight one. Again, original in the case.
