59's get all the glory and with good reason. They are consistently excellent and they have the neck shape that everybody wants. Except that there are two distinctly different 59 neck shapes. The early big neck and the later medium "transitional" neck. Trends and preferences change especially with regard to neck shapes. Lately the "bigger is better" myth has diminished and folks are looking for a little less of a handful. The "perfect" 59 that everyone talks about now is the late 59 profile. It's still pretty chunky but not the baseball bat of 58 and early 59.
This is that neck. And it's a great looker and a great player too. Beautiful dark sunburst with no fade at all. Condition is 9- with only minor checking and almost no wear. A little worming on the back and a few dings (mostly on the back) and the usual wear to the gold parts. This guitar was converted to mono with the Varitone intact and functional. The original 59 harness is intact (other than the Varitone) and in the case. One magnet has been flipped to put the pickups in phase (they are out of phase on a stereo guitar). Since that pickup was opened to flip the magnet, I took a photo before I resealed it to show that it is a PAF with purple windings. The tuners are repro. They are exact fit Klusons and there are no extra holes. Original tuner bushings and screws. Never had Grovers or Schallers. Guitars has been expertly re-fretted. All other parts are original. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 3 ounces (and that's with the Varitone which weighs about a half a pound). Neck measures .85" at the first fret and .94" at the 12th. Pickups read 7.78 neck and 8K bridge. Case is clean brown with pink Stone and is original.
