In 1976 I was a senior in high school. I remember going down to Shelby Jewelry and Loan, who was a Gibson dealer, and Mr. Reid said "son I have something I think you'll like" and pulled out his 2 Gibson Explorers he had just gotten in. Man yeah! Seeing these guitars still give me a thrill 40odd years later. This one is not perfect, but no cracks or breaks. It was refinished, very well, and the refinisher, whomever that may have been went to the trouble to find an accurate looking serial number decal for the back of the headstock. It's not as "honey" tinted as the original, but looks great. Part 2 is the original tarbacks, which I never liked have been replaced with low wound Mojotone PAF's. Having used low wound Mojotone PAF's in my gigging guitars the last 7 years (100+ shows a year until Covid) I felt pretty good about them- if it's not stock, at least it's killer, and if you want this guitar to gig with you won't feel bad about putting an old set of T Tops or whatever in it. Parts looks right, the pots are 134 7340, kind of early for 1976 but there you go. I was told they were original to the guitar. Weighs in at 8 pounds 11.8 ounces and has a really round chunky neck, feels great. It also has the original hard case, shows some wear but is solid, with a replaced handle. I love these guitars, this one is pretty amazing and makes me wish I was still gigging so I could take her out and lay it down. Thanks for looking!
