Here’s an original early post war Gibson F-5 with some unique features. The headstock is narrow and more similar to the “pre-war” F-5s than all the other ‘50s models we have encountered. The neck is mahogany (as many F-5s from the early ‘50s were), hefty, and similar to although not as large as Sam Bush’s “hoss”. All original gold plated hardware is present and the back and sides are highly figured “Birdseye” maple. The. Body is single bound and produces a strong and woody tone.
The Original Gibson case is also unusual and possibly one of a kind. We’ve never seen or heard of another case like it, leading us to believe that it is probably a deluxe prototype.
This mandolin is in excellent condition and a terrific sounding 70 year old example.
