1978 Gibson Firebird Bicentennial. I am the 3rd owner of this instrument. This Firebird will soon to be 40 years young. The original receipt from Johnny's Music Store to the 2nd owner dated 2/8/1982 is inside the Gibson Case.

History Of Ownership & Condition

Weight

8 lbs 2 ozs

Finish

The instrument came to me earlier this year through the Estate of the second owner via his Sister acting as the Executrix of his Estate. The instrument at some point in time may have been professionally refinish. The clear coat lacquer is Amazing. Based on the electronics solder joints I lean more to original finish, but I do not claim to be an expert. Either due to age or improper preparation before spraying the clear coat there are areas on the instrument that the grain filer has a faded. I kind of think it is cool adding a washed denim look to the instrument.

Neck, Frets & Nut

The neck is straight and true with a V shape very close to that of a 56 Strat. The fret wire shows almost no wear. The fret wire is the original factory fret wire low and wide with no wear. The fret board has a surface crack between the 1st and 2nd fret It runs beneath the 1st fret about 5/8" in length. Common with age. The nut is in perfect condition as in the neck. The neck does have a small chip in the finish close to the heel that can be drop filled if someone desires to bother.

Serial # June 20th 1978 Order # 279 Kalamazoo, Michigan

The serial number has what is referred to as a Ghost Stamp. A small impression of the same number stamped over due to imperct pressure.

Hardware

Appears to be original with some signs of wear. The rear pickup has a shim below the mounting as some had from the factory.

Pickup & Electronics

The pots date 1977.

Truss Rod

The neck is straight and true free of cracks. That is amazing considering the age. The truss rod is 100% functional.

Pickguard & Control & Truss Rod Cover

Rear control cover has plastic on it and might be a replacement. The decal of the pickguard is vibrant and the truss rod cover is free of cracks.

Set up

The instrument is set up with 8's. It plays fantastic across the board with intonation perfect as a fretted instrument can be.

Case

Gibson Brown hard shell case in great condition.
