DESCRIPTION
For your consideration a 1965 Gibson Firebird I Non-Reverse in a Sunburst finish. In the ’50s Gibson had struck gold with their Les Paul model but in an effort to keep up with the competition (Fender) they struck while the iron was hot and created a handful of solid body models! At this time most of their models were hollow or semi-hollow and the higher price point associated with this type of build lead to a decrease in sales. They were off to the races with the introduction of the Explorer and Flying V in 1958 but it wouldn’t be tell 1963 when Ted Mcarty hired Ray Dietrich (a car designer) that the world would be introduced to the Firebird!

Specs! This guitar is in good condition it has no brakes or cracks and comes with its original hard shell case. This guitar has had a neck reset. The fingerboard was replaced and now has a maple shim underneath it. The body was routed below the neck pick guard. Non-original nut. The tuners have been replaced with a set of Schallers. It has been refretted with 22 Jumbo frets currently in excellent condition. The back of the neck and headstock have been refinished. It has been rewired with CTS pots. Pick ups are out of phase. There is a hole where the pick up selector was briefly located. The original pick guard is warped and has been cut for new pick up selector (non-original switch). Non-original knobs. At 55 years old this guitar has been through a lot! Nothing a neck reset and refret cant help! Currently playing fantastic, action set at 5/64″ & 4/64″ perfect laying down solid rhythm but also taking fast leads! Killer vintage P-90 tone for days! Nice thin nut width. No brakes or cracks. If your looking to play a 60s Firebird and not keep it in the vault this is your ticket!
