1964 Gibson Firebird V -Heritage Cherry
A very rare Gibson Firebird from my personal collection. According to Gibson shipment ledgers, approximately 572 Gibson Firebird V guitars were made between 1963 and 1964. The standard color was Sunburst. However, Gibson offered 10 different color options for any model Firebird should you decide to order one new. There are 2 colors not included on that chart, though: Black…and Cherry! According to A.R. Duchossoir, “a few instruments were also released with the transparent cherry red tone of the contemporary SG guitars and in black”. This guitar is Heritage or see through cherry and the color is strong. It is all original with no repairs. There are wear spots through the finish on the bottom edge. The 1963-1964 Firebird's had big, beefy, C necks and this one is no exception. 1 11/16" nut with most likely a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard. Frets are in great shape. All nickel hardware with Pat # mini humbuckers. I have the original case but it is worn with some water damage. I also have an Anvil flight case and a new Epiphone padded hard shell case. Please call with questions and I am happy to supply additional photos and an in-hand description.
