Up for sale, a 1983 Gibson Futura in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This rare Gibson model was only produced for a few short years in the early '80s and was designed to keep Gibson on the forefront of modern guitar innovation. With a neck through maple body and pair of tarback humbuckers purposefully designed for this model, the Futura has a lightweight, ergonomic shape and an array of tones that fit squarely in the "Gibson" camp. The bridge pickup is wound to 8.92k ohms, balancing well with the neck pickup at 8.11k. Given the maple construction, the pickups are surprisingly very warm and round sounding, and while the attack and snappy top end typically associated with maple definitely factors into the overall tone, the thick sonic characteristics of these original humbuckers can't be denied. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 4oz and has a strong acoustic tone, with Gibson's signature near endless sustain. We've had this Futura professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, dialed in with 10-46 strings and low action.

The neck has a round and substantial C shape that has full shoulders, starting out a bit flatter down at the nut and filling out to full baseball bat proportions by the time you reach the 9th fret. The stock wide/flat Gibson fretwire is intact, and these frets show virtually no wear, playing cleanly up the neck. The rosewood board features pearl dot inlay, and the nut has Gibson's full traditional 1 11/16" width. On the headstock, the original gold tuning machines are intact along with the "Futura" truss rod cover and silkscreened "Gibson" logo on the headstock face. The "Made in USA" stamp and serial number from '83 are present on the back of the headstock as well.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 7th week of 1983. Each humbucker has its own Volume knob, with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Tone knob to round things out. The original hardware is completely intact as well with a clean gold Nashville bridge and stopbar tailpiece, as well as three original black speed knobs. Cosmetically, this is an impressive and extremely clean guitar, with light vertical finish checking on the body, barely a scratch on the back, and only a couple extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the original ebony nitro lacquer finish. This guitar is 100% original and will surely satisfy discerning collectors and serious players alike.

The original Gibson hardshell case is included. The case is in similarly fine shape to the guitar, with a clean burgundy plush interior, original handle, working latches, and white silkscreened "Gibson" logo on the case exterior.
