1955 Gibson GA-55 is in good condition and in perfect working order. One of Gibson's best premium amps from the mid '50s and it’s been thoroughly serviced with only the needed work done. Leaking caps replaced and 1 tube re-loaded (Silvania NOS 6SC7).
The GA-55 Instrument Channel is a screamer for guitar or harp, with a Bass control that has a particularly wide tonal sweep. It's clean till about 4 on the volume dial and the distortion has some serious muscle and thickness to it. Dimed out (with the EQ dimed as well). It is very touch sensitive and the natural tube saturation’s really is smooth. Similar in response, the Microphone Channel has more clean snap on the top end before pushing into the same thick, churning overdrive as the Instrument Channel. Both original Jensen P12Q alnico 5 speakers are great sounding speakers and have a smooth response with bell-like top end and great dynamic touch response. Both speakers retain their original bell covers with "Jensen Alnico 5" gold foil labels. The date codes on the edges of the speaker frames are '55. Aesthetically the amp shows wear on the edges of the enclosure and particularly the bottom, yet the original two tone cosmetics are there and respectable. This GA-55 has been thoroughly serviced with a 3 prong cable added.
