1958 LES PAUL STANDARD R9
SCOTCH BURST
AS NEW
$4800.00

As my other listings might indicate, I'm very choosy about my guitars. Originality is foremost. I dislike faded, phony finishes. I owned original Sunburst guitars in the late 60s so I was there at the beginning and I saw many originals. In the past twenty+ years I've also seen counterfeit examples. The world we live in....

Anyway, when I came across this R9 it blew my mind. Generally, owing to wannabe demand, Gibson rarely pays attention to accurate sunburst finishing. Preaching to the choir $$$ seeking. Well, it didn't work. This R9 was an absolute exception. Perfect shading, gradation and intensity AND amazing ribbon flame in the rare brown burst colors like Bloomfield and Danny Kirwan's. I've owned nine Historics -- all were very fine but the action of this Scotch Burst equals my original Les Pauls (see my '57 for sale) and Epis. Further, the neck isn't dissimilar to my two remaining Historic 59s. It's great. Whether the carve/bridge/nut/tenon joint ratio or whatever gives me the sound like my orig. 59 Les Paul Custom (not for sale here), who can say, but if you close your eyes you'd be hard pressed to tell a, like, $95000.00 difference.

I sent some pics to Rame Eskidge of the Custom Shop when I got this in 2010 and he expressed amazement that there was a 'Figured' 1958 as eye-popping as this. 1 of 25 made. Simply brilliant flame.
