Summary: The Gibson Hummingbird stands as one of the most iconic acoustic guitars of all time. This square-shoulder dreadnought is most commonly found with mahogany back and sides and a distinct cherry sunburst finish. Its distinct style and well-rounded tone has been favored by players like Keith Richards and Sheryl Crow. This particular Gibson Hummingbird is part of a limited run of guitars crafted in Bozeman Montana by Gibson Master Luthiers – the model # is a “Hummingbird TV” for True Vintage. We spoke with Gibson & they verified that this guitar was part of a limited run of 50 instruments!
Body: The body design of the Hummingbird True Vintage is known as a square shoulder dreadnought. The top is made from AAA-grade Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from mahogany, giving the Hummingbird True Vintage a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with unbiased rich lows and clear treble registers. Gibson Acoustic’s Hummingbird True Vintage sports a single “X” bracing pattern similar to the design inside vintage Gibson J-30s.
Neck: This Gibson has a fully bound mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard & split parallelogram inlays.
Pickups/Hardware: Gibson’s Hummingbird True Vintage features Gotoh’s 15:1 green button, vintage style gold tuners. The tortoise pickguard on the Hummingbird True Vintage is custom-made and features the traditional floral and bird design as it appeared on the first Hummingbird in 1960. This guitar has an LR Baggs Anthem pickups system installed but it is impossible to tell if this came with the guitar or if it was installed later.
Cosmetics: This Gibson Hummingbird is in great shape – there are some light pick scratches on the front and some small scratches on the back but nothing major.
Playability: This Gibson plays great – the action is low & the instrument plays without any buzz or dead spots. We had this Gibson set up with 12’s by our in-house luthier & it is ready to be played and loved for years to come.
