Description

Here is a truly special instrument, housed in the original case, and quite rare. This model was introduced in 1951 and this particular guitar is among the first TEN J-185s ever made... number 9 to be exact!! According to a Vintage Guitar Magazine article written by George Gruhn, "The J-185 is regarded by many players and collectors as the finest-sounding Gibson flat-top made after World War II. The only flat-top of its size and shape made by Gibson in the 1950s, the company offered nothing comparable even in its pre-war catalogs, and though it is in many ways similar to the J-200, it’s a very different instrument."

The J-185 was introduced in 1951 with a Sitka spruce top, curly maple back and sides, mahogany neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with double-parallelogram inlays.

This guitar is in very fine condition with original bridge and plate along with original tuners, original finish, original inlays, and original logo. No head stock crack, no heel crack, no back cracks, and no top cracks. It does have a repaired side crack along with a replaced pickguard. All work was done at Gruhn Guitars. Beautiful maple back and sides. White paper label. 11,000 dollars.
