Retrofret Stock # 4800. Gibson J-35 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1940), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 1465F-33, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black soft shell case. Simply the cleanest J-35 we've ever had! A super sweet sounding Jumbo; a very early example of the natural top option cataloged this year for the first time. The neck is a substantial C profile neck, replacing the 1939 style V some modern players find uncomfortable. The beautifully preserved early natural top finish is still shiny, with just enough checking to show its age. Other original features include the branded openback Kluson strip tuners with white plastic buttons, "firestripe" tortoise celluloid pickguard and silkscreen white script Gibson logo. The guitar has a sound to be reckoned with, big and powerful but but not as muscular as some-a good flatpicker and a very nice fingerpicking guitar as well. This is absolutely one of the nicest prewar Gibsons we've ever offered.Overall length is 40 7/8 in. (103.8 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 7/8 in. (12.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Super clean overall. There is some light checking on the top; a little pickwear by the fingerboard on the treble side and by the soundhole ring are the only signs of play. Two small but noticeable scrapes on the back otherwise the back is very clean. Back of the neck is nearly perfect. Excellent + Condition.
