New Price. FON: 2558-45. Banner J-45 in superb excellent condition from the outstanding 2558 batch. Bound two-piece red spruce top with four-ply rosette, rosewood bridge that appears to be original, and dark mock-tortoise-shell guard. The top shows some checking and a very tightly repaired inside pickguard crack but is otherwise very clean with 99.9% of the finish shiny and intact. The center seam is checked but intact. The dark-stained mahogany sides and bound back are immaculate; no cracks and very little scratching. The neck is the desirable three-piece maple and walnut of considerable heft and no wear in the finish except a little chipping around the heel. The headstock shows the script logo and the “Only a Gibson is Good Enough” banner. Tuners are the original Klusons with the original buttons in great shape. The fretboard is probably gumwood, a fine woodworking wood Gibson used when the rosewood ran out, with one small divot on the second fret. There is a little flaking of the logo. Inside is as you would expect on a guitar this clean – two scalloped tone bars, original bridge plate, and original linen over X-brace junction, all in great condition. One brace has been reglued with only a tell-tale sign – no slopping. The neck has been reset and refretted by Mark Tossman. The action is medium low with medium strings (13s) and the tone is very powerful – plenty of bass, gutsy midrange, and clear trebles. It plays well up and down the neck. Comes with a 70’s chipboard case that should be upgraded if this guitar is to be shipped.
