Summary: After a brief appearance in 1942, the J-50 was reintroduced in 1947. The J-50 is essentially the same guitar as the iconic J-45 but with a natural instead of sunburst finish. As such, the changes in specifications between the two models have been more or less identical through their history. This particular J-50 has a serial # of 151064 that dates it to 1963.

Body: Sloped shoulder acoustic guitar with a solid spruce top & mahogany back & sides.

Neck: Mahogany neck with 20 frets, dot inlays, hand crafted rosewood bridge with an adjustable saddle, original Gibson Deluxe tuning keys. The frets do show some wear, especially the first 3 frets. These frets are big jumbo frets & the guitar appears to have been re-fretted before. The scale length is 24.75” and the nut width is 1 11/16”.

Pickups/Hardware: No electronics – original Kluson Deluxe tuning keys with white buttons, adjustable saddle, hand crafted rosewood bridge (made by our luthier Nick Holcomb), original tortoiseshell pickguard, dot inlays.

Cosmetics: This old Gibson shows a lot of wear & tons of character marks – there are several nice sized dings on the top, some wear around the pickguard and lots of checking in the finish. All the wear is consistent with a well-played vintage instrument from the 1960’s. There are also several dings & nicks on the back of the guitar & a place toward the bottom where the glossy finish has worn off completely. There are no cracks or breaks in the guitar.

Playability: This Gibson plays great – the guitar has been fully set up with 12’s by our in-house luthier & the guitar plays with comfortable action, no buzzing & no dead spots.

Mods/Repairs: The original bridge was one of those plastic bridges when we got the guitar & we had our luthier craft a rosewood bridge to go on this guitar.

Weight: 4 lbs, 4 oz.

Case: Non-original hardshell case made by “Terrapin”
