Description

Very good condition featuring slope shouldered dreadnought body shape, solid mahogany back and sides with dark stain finish, solid Sitka spruce top with natural finish, multi-bound top edges and single bound back edges, decorative soundhole rosette, rosewood bridge with bone saddle and six white plastic bridge pins, elongated red thick plastic pickguard, set mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Gibson open book peghead shape, black peghead face with gold Gibson logo, single ply black plastic bell shaped truss rod cover, three on a plate Kluson Deluxe double line tuning machines with white oval plastic buttons, LR Baggs iBeam pickup system with volume control in the soundhole and output jack mounted in the endpin, metal strap button and 1950s Gibson badged hard shell case with brown Tolex covering and green interior.

This 1967 Gibson J-50 flattop is in very good vintage cosmetic condition showing moderate finish checking, some scratches and dings here and there, signs of play wear throughout, a long scratch on the peghead face and one scratch on the back of the peghead (see photos). The body of this J-50 is crack free and this instrument is very lightweight coming in at 4lb 7oz. The neck profile on this guitar is a very comfortable, late 60s C shape with 1 9/16" nut width. The nicely figured rosewood fingerboard has been professionally refretted with medium jumbo fret wire and the newer frets show no signs of play wear. This instrument plays outstanding up and down the fretboard with low action and good intonation. This J-50 was originally an “ADJ” model (meaning that it had an adjustable saddle from from the factory) but it has had a new bridge and non-adjustable bone saddle made for it and professionally installed. The bridge is not oversized and looks great. This guitar has an LR Baggs pickup system installed and it sounds great! The original tuners work very well. The G string tuner has a slight bend but still functions normally. A strap button has been added to the neck heel. This 1967 Gibson J-50 flattop sounds outstanding and has a very clear, articulate and dry tone with a thuddy bass response and plenty of volume. This guitar will record beautifully and it does the quintessential “Gibson thing” that these instruments are famous for. This guitar will make someone a wonderful songwriting companion and because of the pickup system, it would be perfectly suitable for live performance. This is an all around great sounding, great playing vintage Gibson flattop with plenty of songs left in it. This 54 year old guitar is housed in a 1950s Gibson hard shell case with green interior and is patiently waiting for its new owner. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
