Description

This is a limited edition “Inspired By” Series Gibson Custom Shop Jimi Hendrix Flying V from 2006. It is #230 out of a limited run of only 300.

The guitar is currently set-up lefty, so it would appeal to the left handed player who wants to experience(pun intended, no problem) the guitar as Jimi would have played it. The nut was converted to lefty, and I flipped the bridge around. For the righties, converting back to right handed would be that simple.

The left handed set-up turned out great:

Strings: D’Addario EXL110 ( 10 – 46)
Action at the 12th fret: High E – 4/64, Low E – 5/64
Pickup Height: Neck PUP – 3/32, Bridge PUP – 2/32
Intonation: All strings 100% intonated
The guitar plays great up and down the neck, and is very resonant with a Huge tone!

Guitar Specs:

Nut Width: 1 9/16 (just like an original 1967 Gibson)
Pickup Outputs: Neck/8.00K, Bridge/7.99K
Neck Depth: .87/1st, 1.03/12th
Weight: it’s a featherweight, well under 7 lbs – 6 lbs, 6.9 oz (measured on a commercial Toledo scale)

Guitar Description:

Jimi Hendrix’s hand-painted 1967 Flying V is a mythical instrument. Purchased in 1967 and used on tour in Europe during 1967 and 1968, the guitar – with its swirling psychedelic designs – highlights the spirit of the times and showcases Jimi’s unique artistic expression. Meticulously recreating Jimi’s guitar for the “Inspired By” Series has been a labor of love for Gibson’s Custom Shop. Originally painted with what appears to be nail polish, Gibson has used materials which reproduce the same sense of depth and texture.

But this is a Gibson Custom guitar, so the materials and hardware are faithful reproductions of the original. The result is an instrument with unsurpassed playability and classic tone. The Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic Flying V is an original work of art that you can beautifully display or proudly play.

This guitar is from a high-end collection of super clean and original guitars, mostly lefty, with some cool righties, like this Flying V. It has less than 1 hour of playtime with no fret wear.

The guitar is in EXC overall condition. There are 2 things to note: 1. There is a ding on the front of the body, measuring 1 1/2” long x 1/16” wide,
but it’s well hidden by the artwork and can only be seen at certain light angles(see pic). 2. The bridge PUP volume knob was missing the top reflector cap, so the owner purchased a new set of 4 knobs which are a very good match. The new volume knob is currently on the guitar. The original knob is in the case, along with the other 3 new knobs(see pic).

So this is a unique guitar for the left handed player, who has an incredible and rare opportunity to play an original-spec Hendrix Flying V the way it was meant to be played - with a similar set-up as the guitar Jimi played.
I have not seen another Hendrix Flying V set up for the left handed player!

If you are right handed, converting back to righty would be very easy.

Includes OHSC, COA, guitar strap, Owners Manual, Warranty Booklet, extra knobs.
