SOLD. FON 1468E-25. Perhaps the finest sounding and playing example I’ve encountered. Very handsome ebony black L-0 circa 1939 in outstanding condition with firestripe pickguard (reverse flames), aged ivoroid binding and rosette, dark Brazilian Rosewood bridge and fretboard. It’s a classic. While these are so dark they are hard to photograph, it is exceptionally clean for the model. There are a few tiny pock marks (probably from a pick, not case) and a grain separation on the top near the bass side lower bout. But it’s as clean as I’ve seen. Master luthier Mark Tossman performed a neck reset, complete refret and set it up with new nut and saddle from the correct materials. The action is dead solid perfect. It has the punch and bark of a small Gibson blues box. The nut width of 1-11/16” feels a little wider than it measures. The neck profile is a soft V with some heft. The string spacing at the bridge is very comfortable for fingerpicking. Tuners are three-to-a-plate Klusons with the white buttons that work very well. The stenciled “Gibson” logo is still very white and crisp. If you’ve been searching for a clean and original L-0 or L-00 that sounds great, plays straight and has a beautiful vintage vibe, search not more. With a firm fitting TKL molded plastic case.
