1929 Gibson L-2 Very Good, Original Soft, $6,999.00

1929 Gibson L-2 Walter White. This is one of the more interesting L body guitars we have come across. It is from one of the first batches if not the first of large L bodies FON-9476. It is braced like a 12 fret guitar but of course has a 13 fret neck joint. As a result the bridge plate was not under the bridge and an auxiliary one was added when new. We opted to remove the old ones which were not doing much and replace it with one solid piece. The neck has a volute and originally wore banjo tuners, at some point it was fitted with strip tuners of the period. It must have gone back to Gibson in the early 1930s due to the headstock logo and some of the repairs appear factory of that era. The original bridge had been shaved and shimmed so we made a reproduction out of Brazilian. There are several repaired cracks. We reset the neck and refretted it as well. This guitar was played a lot over the years as the wear shows. Amazingly it has the original soft case bridge pins and rope strap. One of the most interesting features of this guitar is the original owners name stamped in the truss rod cover and pickguard "Walter White". We have no idea who Walter White was or what the colorful history of this guitar includes. It is an amazing guitar that has a huge tonal range. It is very light in build and has been played extensively. The sound is unlike any other Gibson from the era due to all the unique features. We know of two other guitars from this first batch floating around out there. A rare chance to make one of them yours. Includes original soft case and strap.
