1968 Gibson L-48 with Taylor Case

Summary: This guitar has that great vintage “jazz box” sound with the advantage of the skinnier 60’s style Gibson neck and original late 60’s larger fret wire. The Gibson L-48 guitar came out in 1946 as a slightly less expensive alternative to the famous L-50 which had debuted back in 1932. This is a basic non-cutaway 16” wide f-hole instrument, made from spruce for the top, mahogany for the sides, back and neck. It has a polished black headstock overlay bearing the gold decal Gibson logo and no decoration, only the black bell-shaped truss rod cover. This particular L-48 is in great shape for its age, sounds incredible, the finish looks great but it is missing its pickguard. Ships in a nice Taylor hardshell case.

Body: This is a 16” archtop guitar with spruce top, mahogany back and sides and cream binding.

Neck: The mahogany neck has a skinnier 60’s nut width of 1 9/16”. The rosewood fretboard looks really nice, has large original 20 frets, pearloid dot inlays, original nut and original Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white buttons.

Hardware: This guitar has the original intonated rosewood bridge, original nickel plated trapeze tailpiece and Kluson Deluxe tuners.

Cosmetics: This archtop shows no breaks, cracks or visible repairs. By the condition of the finish and the frets it appears that it has barely been played at all in its life. The finish looks amazing and has lots of deep checking all around the body and neck. There are a couple chips in the finish but nothing major. The most significant chip is on top facing the side (see picture). There is a slightly visible outline of the pickguard which was originally on the guitar and both screw holes are visible.

Playability: This guitar has been set up with low action and the neck is straight. We have strung it up with a new set of phosphor bronze 12 gauge strings and it plays like a dream. The frets are in fantastic shape, they are tall, round, smooth, show no gouges in them and have tons of life left.

Weight: 5 lbs, 2 oz.

Case: This instrument ships with a super nice Taylor hardshell acoustic guitar case & will package it well & ship it fully insured.
