Description

Here's a 1929 Gibson L-5 in Tobacco Sunburst. 16" wide, carved spruce top, flame maple back & sides, pearloid block inlays (which were introduced in 1929), and flowerpot headstock inlay. The tailpiece and tuners are not original, while the bridge (and everything else) is. The guitar came without the original pickguard. The neck profile is on the medium side, which is a change from the really chunky V profile this model had from previous years (L-5's were introduced in 1922). The guitar is such a pleasure to play!! Tonally it's full, clear, balanced, with wonderful projection. Very responsive as well. The action is on the medium to low side, with good room left in the bridge to go lower (or higher). The truss rod functions properly.

It definitely has "the sound." At some point there was another tailpiece on the guitar that left extra holes, which, are now plugged (see last picture). There was also a crack repair there, which involved touch up and overspray on the finish. There's also finish touchup on the front of the headstock. There's a couple small crack repairs along the sides, and then the one down the seam on the lower back. That is about 4" long, and does NOT go up the entire back. The rest of the body is solid!

This amazing archtop, from a very special era in Gibson's history, deserves a good home. Incredibly inspiring guitar to play. HSC included!
