Introduced in 1932, the Gibson L-7 was Gibson's most popular acoustic archtop ever. Identical in all but cosmetics to the L-5, it remains an outstanding value in a true pro-sized all-carved jazz guitar. Between 1934 and 1939 only, this model was produced with X-bracing on the top, a style popularized by D'Angelico, D'Aquisto, Benedetto and countless contemporary top-end builders. This style of bracing produces a tone which is typically warm and sweet, with a bit more sustain than parallel braced instruments.

This outstanding example is notable for its powerful open voice, with exceptional clarity enhanced by a fine set of high pro frets. The highly figured back shows tiger flame maple under the deep walnut finish. An "advanced model" Gibson, this example has the ornate "picture frame" banjo inlays in the fingerboard, and a rare variant of the trapeze tailpiece with raised diamonds in an art-deco pattern, a version seen on this model for a very short time only.

An exceptionally warm and woody sounding guitar, this L-7 also has a remarkably contemporary neck, with a gentle, comfy C profile. A pair of grainline cracks near the bass f-hole and a hairline side crack were resealed decades ago, and the original dark sunburst finish protected under a light clear overspray. A set of correct antiqued nickel Sta-Tite style tuners with modern 16X1 gearing makes tuning smooth and fast, and a correct bound tortoise pickguard completes the vintage look.

A great player with a deep, rich voice, a sleek neck profile, and a distinguished pedigree, prized by pick and fingerstyle players alike. One only: call now.
