2003 Gibson LEFTY Brazilian R9 Les Paul (1959 Reissue) Cherry Sunburst, Near Mint, Original Hard, $14,995.00
Near Mint condition 2003 Gibson Historic 1959 Les Paul reissue (left handed) with Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, with serial number 9 35xx. This is a very rare Gibson Custom Shop employee guitar with a number of unique features. One-off maroon-colored cherry sunburst finish with red analine pigment that is very thin and has sunken into the pores of the wood like an old finish does. Very ornate woods were used on this one including a heavily figured top from a "mammoth old sugar maple trunk" and quartersawn "genuine" Mahogany back from a "mammoth Mahogany trunk".
The fretboard is very hard and dark, so hard in fact it was difficult to plane, and has a very interesting grain pattern. The top is very deeply and heavily figured and light sensitive, and really dances in direct light. All manufacturing operations were performed by the employee or "the best person in the shop." Neck profile is standard '59 depth but with lots of "shoulder" (aka "D-shaped") so closer to a R8 profile with Plek'd frets to the same "low-wide" profile as used on the Jimmy Page #1 reissue necks.
Other interesting features include a special employee cert, factory-installed bone nut, 2002 style no-wire ABR-1 bridge, flannel bib, and commemorative t-shirt. Also includes the Lifton style reissue case, original body wood pieces (saved from rough cut), COA, special employee COA, hang tags, warranty card, 2003 Brazilian Les Paul brochure, leather strap, and case key. Weighs exactly 9.0 lbs.
The only real wear or signs of use are a few very light squiggles on the back that are too faint to photograph and just the slightest hardware tarnish from age. The guitar has been in climate-controlled storage and unplayed for the last 10+ years. The guitar has a new set of Gibson nickel "Vintage Reissue" 10-46 gauge strings installed.
This one is uncirculated, exceedingly rare, and in "collector clean" condition, and will please even the most discerning buyer.
