Description

This is the 2nd one-owner 1968 ES-335 I've gotten in this year - they're still out there, but getting harder and harder to find. And in this beautiful and original condition!

The serial # is 509169, which points to 1968. There is also an ink stamp inside the F hole next to the Orange Oval label, showing "10666," probably indicating a body date of October 6, 1966.

I've sold a handful of late 60s ES-335s over the years. This is the best sounding one of all, no question! The guitar has a strong and vibrant Cherry Red finish over a nicely figured maple top with a beautiful grain pattern, along with a Dark Brazilian fingerboard, Chrome hardware, Tune-O-Matic bridge, Pat # Humbuckers, Witch Hat knobs, Kluson tuners, original Ess & Ess hardshell case with Marigold lining. The Ess & Ess case was probably the best of the 3 cases available from Gibson (along with Lifton and Stone) - all of the latches are large and heavy-duty.

The nut width is the typical post-1964 1 9/16, the neck is a medium thick with .85/1st fret and .97/12th fret. As lefties can be anomalous, Gibson forgot to put dot markers on the left side- that's the way the guitar came. The pickups are well balanced with Neck/7.79K and Bridge/7.89K. The guitar has a nice weight of under 8 lbs!

The frets have some minor fret wear mostly on the 1st 3 frets, there is some light buckle wear along with a light scratch on the back(nothing through to the wood), some light scratches above the pickguard, and only a handful of tiny nicks on the whole guitar.

This is probably the nicest vintage 335 I've had, second only to a 1958 I had some years ago.
