Description

Bay Area Vintage Guitars is excited to offer this legendary first-year 1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop.

We recently had it inspected by a Gibson Les Paul expert to explain the unique dark finish––here are the details of this inspection:
• The all-gold finish is original
• The guitar has a heavy “brown-ish” hue because the entire guitar has a clearcoat application over the original gold finish - the front, back, neck, headstock, binding, and nut. This has yellowed over time, resulting in a darker gold finish.
• The added clearcoat finish is present on the original headstock “Les Paul Model” gold Silk-Screen. The face of these headstocks should not have a finish over them, but this one does.
• The electronic controls and pickups were likely removed when the clearcoat work was done, as the dark/tinted finish also exists under the pickups and in the control cavity.
• The electronics appear original, as are the original wrap-under bridge, pickguard knobs, and frets
• There were different tuners at some point. Kluson tuners are reinstalled for excellent functionality.

We added more pictures from the inspection documentation to provide a complete understanding of these findings. If you have more questions or want to see additional photos, please send us a message.

The original Lifton hardshell case is included, complete with the original strap and key.

This guitar isn't just about looks; it's a story of passion and playability. The finish shows a darker hue due to the above-mentioned clearcoat and other normal wear, checking, and dings from its journey through 70+ years of creating music.

It offers a comfortable, chunky '50s neck that's seen its fair share of action (and playwear). When it comes to sound, the original P-90 pickups offer nothing less than the punchy, dynamic tone that made the Gibson Les Paul a legend.

This 1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop is a must-have for serious collectors and players alike. Take advantage of the opportunity to own such a remarkable and historic instrument.

Please look at all photos closely, as they are part of the description and are of the actual item you will receive. This guitar is sold 'as-is', so please reach out with any questions.
