This 2009 Gibson R8 is in excellent cosmetic condition and is set up in fantastic playing condition. The frets show some signs of play wear but have loads of life left in them. The neck is a chunky late '50s style carve with large shoulders. It feels incredibly nice in hand and is a bit smaller than other R8s that I've played (it feels a bit more like an R9). The pickups in this guitar are a set of Doyle Coils PAF clones with double white aged bobbins that have been professionally installed. These pickups, in my opinion, absolutely smoke through an amplifier. Both pickups are extremely hi-fi sounding. The bridge pickup delivers an extremely articulate biting tone that is unbeatable with an overdriven amp and the neck pickup offers round clear classic Les Paul tones and never gets muddy. This is probably the most articulate neck pickup I’ve heard in a Reissue Les Paul. These pickups are definitely a really nice upgrade to this guitar and I seriously can’t say enough good things about them! The cherry sunburst finish is done extremely well and has aged and mellowed a bit. The hardware was aged at the factory which also gives it a killer look and vibe. The guitar rings out clear and is very responsive unplugged. The guitar shows some signs of play wear. There are pick scratches here and there and some marks on the back of the body and around the edges (see photos). The one piece mahogany body is an extremely nice figured cut of wood and the weight of this guitar is superb coming in at 8lb 10oz. This guitar is housed in its original black Gibson Historic hard shell case with maroon plush interior. The paper COA is not included. If you're looking for a killer playing 1958 reissue Les Paul, this is a really great playing and sounding guitar. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
