Description

Summary:  This is a stunning Gibson Les Paul Custom from
1983 in a nicely yellowed-with-age Alpine White finish. It is all original and has been inspected,
set up and restrung by our luthier with a new set of 10s. The thin profile neck feels incredible with
its dark ebony fretboard, MOP block inlays and nice big frets.  The “Tim Shaw” humbucker pickups sound sweet
and full with tons of chime and girth.
This is truly one of the most amazing Les Pauls we have in our shop.  This LP plays so well and sounds so brilliant
that 11 pounds is merely a number. It
ships in a vintage brown Gibson hard-shell case.

Body:  The body is 3 solid pieces of mahogany with a
carved top, 6 ply w/b/w binding on top and 4 ply w/b/w binding on back. It has a black 3 ply pickguard and the
original alpine white finish which has aged no a nice smoky amber yellow.

Neck:
 This is one
of the best necks I have felt on a Les Paul, it’s a nice thinner C shape, not
too thin and not too big. It’s a
mahogany neck with a bound ebony fretboard with beautiful mother of pearl block
inlays. The Frets are in great shape with
lots of height on them and the whole neck matches the body with its killer
white finish. One of the coolest things
about this guitar are its rare Gold Gibson Keystone tuners with retractable
levers to assist in tuning! The nut
width is 1 11/16” and the scale length is 24 ¾”.

Pickups/Hardware:  This beauty has all gold hardware, 2 “Tim
Shaw” humbucking pickups that sound sweet and full, 2 volumes, 2 tones and a 3-way
toggle switch. The tune-o-matic bridge
and ‘80s style stop tailpiece with micro tuning adjustments keep the guitar in
great tune and make minor tuning adjustments on the fly a breeze. There are really neat gold “cat eye” shaped
strap buttons and rare Gibson gold keystone tuning keys with retractable levers
to assist in tuning.

Cosmetics:  This Les Paul is in pretty great shape but
does show some battle scars, all typical of a guitar of its age. There are a couple small chips in the white
finish on the tips of the headstock, cracking in the binding at the end of each
fret which matches the finish checking all over the neck and minor chips where
the binding meets the neck wood. The top
and back of this Custom are pretty clean with the exception of a chip in the
finish on the top where you rest your arm, some fine finish checking in the
top, sides and back and minor pick scratching on the pickguard. The back of the guitar does not have much
wear to it, as you would expect lots of buckle rash on a guitar like this,
instead there are just a few small dings and a few scuffs. There are some cracks and wear in the binding
around the body. The 2 glue seams where
the body was glued up can be seen slightly on the body. The pickguard is warped a bit, the hardware
has some corrosion and wear especially on the bridge pickup and bass side of
the tune-o-matic bridge. The pickups and
electronics are working as they should with no issues. All the patina that we see on this gorgeous
Les Paul just add to its beauty and are strictly cosmetic. Over all, this guitar is in great shape and
will be playing for many more years…hopefully for eternity.

Playability:
 We put a new
set of 10’s on this Gibson & gave it a full set up so it plays & sounds
great.  The truss rod is fully working,
the frets are plenty high with very little wear to mention, the action is low
& the fingerboard feels great up & down the neck.
