Sitting somewhere on a couch in a rehearsal room in the early 80's, Mark (my bassist) and I blazed on a joint. The jam pad was full of beer cans, Rush and Van Halen posters, one lava lamp and what looked like a huge, wooden electrical spool. Of course, band practice went well and as you could have guessed, we did at least four encores to yet another sold out crowd in Madison Square Garden. Remember what you did after band practice, right? I suppose that depends on how big your band was. For some, this ritual would look like putting your gear in it's prospective cases and bail. For others, it would consist of drinking, corralling your chicken coop, a little making out and perhaps even a bit a drama. That would come from the hens in said chicken coop. But mind you, this was my first band and Mark and I didn't have scads of scantily clad chickens in our respective coops. What we had was a joint and if we we were lucky, maybe just maybe a beer between us as we dreamed of making that trip to Madison Square Garden. On one of those ritualistic after- rehearsal nights, Mark and I found ourselves stoned as a football bat and listening to Thin Lizzy's "Bad Reputation" album. If you've never heard the song "Dancing in the Moonlight," then YouTube it and you will easily hear the tone that this guitar is capably of producing. That album, as you may recall just had three members of Thin Lizzy on the cover and in case you do not know your Rock history, Scott Robertson had gotten into yet another barroom fist fight that left his hand slightly disfigured (The Irish- you know they have quite the temper.) With that being said, the other Scott in the band did all the duties as far as the guitar was concerned. The other Scott just loved a Marshall JMP and a Les Paul Deluxe. All of those classic harmony solos were just Lizzy's signature sound. As Mark and I blazed on the Devil's breath, those familiar harmony solos permeated that dingy rehearsal room. Of course, when your young and blazing you dream of nothing more than opening for Aerosmith and "kitty." "Kitty?" Yeah, just think of the other slang term for this and you got it. (well, this is a rated PG-13 site, you know.) Like I said, Phil Lynott's bass line was grooving and Scott's solo was impeccable. Maybe I was bit toasty, but I swore I even heard a saxophone melody line in that song. As for this guitar, it certainly a man's guitar. If'n your not one, you need not apply. This Deluxe has a beefy, Mahogany neck and weighs in at 9 lbs, 6 oz. So if you like spending your free time antique shopping and then kicking back while relaxing to an episode of the "Property Brothers" on HGTV, you might not be the droid we're looking for. But, if you can handle this beast of guitar, you will be well rewarded with the tone for 'ole. What's that Phil?
