1973 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Gold Top

Summary: This Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop has got the looks and tone that are seldom matched! The sparkling goldtop finish looks almost as it did when it left the factory. The uniquely voiced mini-humbuckers are balanced yet lively and are simply inspiring. This Les Paul is a glorious example of the well-crafted guitars from this era and many of the greats who play these early ‘70s era Les Pauls’ can attest to that. The date on the CTS pots, inlayed Gibson logo and small volute tell us this is a ’73. Will ship in its beautiful original hardshell case.

Body: It has a solid “sandwiched” mahogany body with a carved maple gold top and cream binding around the top.

Neck: It has a 3 piece mahogany neck with a small volute and inlayed Gibson logo. The neck is pretty slim in the first position but tapers to a slightly deeper profile as you move up. The fretboard has cream binding, celluloid trapezoid inlays, original frets and nut. The nut width is 1 11/16” and the scale length is 24 ¾”.

Pickups/Hardware: This Les Paul has the original mini humbuckers with cream rings that sound fabulous. They have a round articulate tone with lots of dynamic capabilities and tons of sparkling sustain. The tuners are replacement Schallers, it has the original wired tune-o-matic bridge with posts going into the wood, cream pickguard and gold top hat knobs.

Cosmetics: The top of this Les Paul is almost immaculate. There are a few very small dings no bigger than the tip of a pen around the lower bout. The most significant ding is right under the toggle switch (see picture). The back of the guitar has some honest playwear; buckle rash, minor scuffing, but nothing that breaks the finish. There is some slight delamination of the plating on the stop tail piece (see picture).

Playability: This Les Paul is a great player. The frets have just been leveled and crowned by our in-house luthier and set up with low action. We strung it up with a new set of 10’s and it is playing and sounding tremendously.

Modifications: The original tuners have been replaced by nickel Schaller tuners and one of the strap buttons have been replaced.

Weight: 9 lbs, 13 oz.

Case: Original Gibson 1970’s rectangle hard shell Les Paul case with purple interior;
