The Les Paul Jr. was introduced in 1954, likely inspired by Fender's single pickup Esquire model. Though this stripped down, slab-body electric was designed for student guitarists, these Kalamazoo made instruments quickly caught on with rock players who favored the aggressive "dog ear" P90, simple tone controls, resonant mahgaony body, and the perfect 50's Gibson neck profile. This early example from 1955 is crack and repair free. The original bridge posts were shallower in 54-55, causing many to lean forward over time. This example has had longer bridge posts installed to avoid this problem. The original knobs are included but an aftermarket pair is installed, and the guitar has been professionally re-fretted insuring it plays perfectly all the way up the neck. The original pickups and electronics deliver the unmistakable great tone that put these on the map. Single cut Juniors continue to fetch collector's prices making unbroken examples like this hard to come by. A fantastic guitar ready to perform for another 70 years!
