This is one of the rarest of Gibson's guitars, a limited edition of no more than 24 specimen. Built by Dick Schneider before he left Gibson, he was given a free hand to design a Les Paul as he pleased. Previously, Dick had done the wood work on the top of the line THE LES PAUL MODEL, 76 of which were built, and decided to use the same top class materials and add a little more magic - this is the only Gibson guitar model to my knowledge that features a five piece neck (three piece top grade flame maple with two strips of carbon fiber in between) to make it as rigid as possible. Other than good looks, lots of sustain and harmonic overtones is the result. You are going to love this one for both incredible looks and sound. By the way, it may look like an all maple guitar, but is in fact a mahogany body with maple top, matched bottom, and sides, and it is incredibly well preserved for a guitar 37 years old. In 1979, the price was no less than seven and a half times that of a Les Paul Custom (and it still is).
