Ever wanted a vintage Les Paul from Gibson’s golden era at the price point of a new Custom Shop? Well, here’s your chance. Up for sale is a 1961 Gibson Les Paul Special in its original cherry finish. Why so cheap? Well, there’s a laundry list of reasons but most importantly at some point, the guitar suffered a heel break and headstock break. Both have been professionally repaired and are solid. Alongside the repairs, there is a clear overspray over most of the back that is truly only visible under blacklight. There is also a few filled and touched up screw holes on the face of the body I would imagine from a different tailpiece at some point. All 4 pots and the caps have been replaced as well as the tuners. There are additional holes visible from the old tuners. The strap button has been moved from the back of the body to the bass-side horn which I prefer on the DC LPs from this era. The bridge has been replaced with a Mojotone (original included) and the guitar has been professionally refretted. With that all said, this guitar is a fantastic player and retains its original pickups, pickup covers, pickguard, knobs, and slim 60s style neck shape. All in all, it’s a player with some mods and repairs but a killer example that looks, feels, sounds, and plays the part. Comes complete with a non-original hard case.
