2012 Gibson Les Paul Special TV Yellow, Good, GigBag
Summary: The Les Paul Special was originally introduced as an affordable student model but the classic simple design has become a favorite & has stood the test of time. The P-90 pickups were often taken out & replaced with the warm, rich, thick Humbucker pickups so Gibson decided to put it all together in 2012 & give you the Les Paul Special “Humbucker” series….this guitar sounds and plays awesome & we recently had the guitar set up with 10’s by our in-house luthier – this Gibson is ready to roll!
Body: Solid mahogany body with a single cutaway & a great TV Yellow gloss finish.
Neck: Solid mahogany neck with a Baked Maple fingerboard, 22 frets, dot inlays, fully bound with cream binding, Kluson Deluxe tuning keys. The nut width is 1 11/16” and the scale length is 24.75”.
Pickups/Hardware: 2 Humbucker pickups, 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, chrome hardware, 3-way switch. The pickups are the 490R and the 490T and the previous owner added the chrome pickup covers.
Cosmetics: This guitar has a few small signs of wear – the pickguard shows lots of scratching & there are some small dings & nicks on the body with a little bit of buckle rash on the back, however, none of the dings or scratches are going down to the wood.
Playability: This is a fine playing & sounding Gibson guitar – the action is low & comfortable and the guitar plays with no dead spots. The frets show some wear but they have a ton of life left in them – this instrument was recently set up with 10’s by our in-house luthier & it is ready to be played and loved!
Modifications: The tuning keys are vintage style Kluson Deluxe tuning keys with plastic buttons – most of the other models I have seen have “Gibson Deluxe” so I think these are replacement tuning machines, however, when I called Gibson to talk with them they told me that they did actually use Kluson Deluxe on some of the guitars around that time so they may be original. The guitar has had chrome pickup covers added.
