Les Paul Special was released in 1955, one year after Custom and Junior.
The basic specs are similar to those of Les Paul Junior, with mahogany body and P-90, but with mother-of-pearl head logo, fingerboard side banding, and 2 PUs, it stands between Standard and Junior in terms of specs.
In addition to the specification differences, it also features the lime-dark mahogany finish (commonly known as TV yellow) used on the Les Paul TV, establishing the impression that Special = TV yellow.
