Why would anyone buy a refinished Les Paul burst? Simple. Because you think spending $300,000 or more on a guitar is slightly loony and if you must have a burst, you can get all the tone goodness and all the good looks from one that has been competently refinished while retaining all the parts. Will it appreciate as much as an all original one? Probably not. Will it always be desirable? Well as long as folks want to play Les Pauls, there will be folks who have no problem spending serious money for the real thing. Oh, and the other reason? If you have a $300,000 Les Paul and you want to take it out to play a gig without an entourage of bodyguards, a refinished one will sound the same and look the same and play the same. You could do that with a reissue for a lot less money but I've never heard a reissue sound like this one. My main player is a 59 ES-345 and I've been an ES player for years. This LP could turn me into a Les Paul guy. It is that good. It is an early 60. The neck is medium chunky. The pickups are sealed double black PAFs. All the parts are either original or correct except for the guard which is a cut 50's P90 guard. The refinish was done by Historic Makeovers in 2014. The guitar weighs 8 lbs 14 ounces. I will be happy to swap out the pickups for a pair of double white PAFs for an additional $5000 (I keep the double blacks). The serial number was lost along the way and a serial number was "borrowed" from a 60 Melody Maker so there is no duplication. The photos showing red are from before the HM refinish. The first photo is what it looks like now. More photos will be posted soon.
