Summary: The Les Paul Standard has been through its share of changes since the '50s, but remains one of the world's most popular and iconic instruments. From the late '70s onward, the Standard has stayed more or less the same with just some variations in finish and hardware options, as well as the release various special editions. This particular Gibson Les Paul Standard is from 1985 has the original Tim Shaw humbuckers and a wonderful cherry sunburst finish. This instrument is marked “SEC” on the back of the headstock so it was also considered a second when it was new. Gibson also stamped guitars “second” if they were employee owned guitars. This lovely LP ships in a vintage aftermarket Epiphone hardshell case and we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!

Body: Solid body, single cutaway electric guitar with a mahogany body and a fully bound 3-piece maple cap. This vintage Gibson has a wonderful cherry sunburst finish. This Gibson has a plain top but it does have some wonderful character in the grain.

Neck: Fully bound mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, trapezoidal pearloid inlays, Gibson deluxe tuning keys, 22 frets, 24.75” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width. This instrument is marked “SEC” on the back of the headstock.

Pickups/Hardware: Chrome hardware, 2 original Tim Shaw patent number humbucker pickups, 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, 3-way switch, cream binding, cream pickguard, pearloid trapezoid inlays, tune-o-matic bridge & stop tailpiece. None of the solder joints have been tampered with and all of the electronics are original.

Cosmetics: This LP has a good amount of buckle rash on the back but it doesn’t go past the finish, nicks and dings around the edges of the body, small cracks in the binding at the fret ends, light scratches on the headstock from the years of string changes and a fair amount of small dings on the top of the guitar. The bridge position pickup ring had a few cracks but has been repaired. The “Pat Appl. For” sticker on the bridge pickup ring denotes it is a Tim Shaw pickup, it was peeling off but carefully taped back down. There was also a “Pat Appl. For” sticker on the neck position pickup ring but it has fallen off. Overall, this guitar is in pretty good condition although you can tell it was played quite a bit in its life. There are no breaks, structure cracks or visible repairs to speak of on this beauty.

Playability: Our in house luthier has just inspected, set up and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s and it is playing beautifully with low action and a straight neck. There is a small amount of fretwear mostly in the first position but it does not affect the playability.
Modifications: The strap buttons do not appear to be the original. The bridge position pickup ring has been glued back together in some places.

Weight: 9 lbs, 14 oz.

Case: This vintage Gibson ships in an aftermarket Epiphone hard-shell case & we will ship it professionally packed and fully insured!
