1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst

Excellent condition featuring single cutaway, one piece mahogany body with cherry red stain back and neck finish, bound two piece maple top with cherry sunburst finish, two humbucking pickups with chrome covers and cream colored plastic pickup surrounds, two volume controls and two tone controls with gold speed knobs, three-way pickup selector switch with white tip and cream colored plastic Rhythm and Treble selector ring, stop tailpiece and Nashville tune-o-matic fully adjustable bridge, cream colored plastic elevated pickguard with metal mounting bracket, one piece mahogany neck, bound Indian rosewood fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Gibson open book peghead, black peghead face with Gibson pearl logo and screenprinted gold Les Paul model logo, multi-ply bell shaped black and white truss rod cover with Standard engraving, three on a side Gibson Kluson deluxe tuning machines with green plastic keystone buttons, serial number and Made in USA impressed into the back of the peghead, single ply brown plastic electronics control cavity cover plate and switch cavity cover plate, two metal strap buttons (with added washers that easily could be removed) and original brown Tolex covered Gibson hard shell case with pink plush interior and pink shroud. This guitar weighs 9lb 8oz.

This 1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard is in overall excellent cosmetic condition showing only minor signs of play wear throughout including a few pick scratches here and there, some faint back scratches that were impossible to photograph and two very small dings on the back of the body (see photos). The neck profile on this guitar is that of the period and is 1 11/16 inch nut width and feels great in hand. The frets show little to no signs of play wear and have a lifetime of use left in them. This Les Paul has been professionally set up and plays outstanding up and down the fingerboard. The bridge pickup ring is cracked on both sides and bulging a bit which is common for Gibson instruments of this period. The pickups in this guitar are the original Gibson Bill Lawrence designed circuit back humbuckers and they sound fantastic. These pickups were often changed out in these guitars and it’s pretty cool to find one with the originals. This is an exceptionally clean and all original example of a late 1980s Les Paul Standard and is the cleanest that I have encountered in years. This Les Paul is housed in its original brown Tolex covered Gibson case and would make someone a tremendous electric instrument for years to come.
