This Gibson Master Museum guitar is for a collector who appreciates the finest craftsmanship. It was 100% custom designed and built in 2006 by Ren Ferguson, master luthier, at Gibson's acoustic division in Bozeman, Montana. Visually and tonally this instrument is museum quality. It has a custom trans-black finish with purple cast finished in nitrocellulose lacquer. Built of the finest woods, pearloid, abalone, silver and gold this guitar is evocative of pirate themed fantasy and romance. It has had one owner and has never been played. Ren Ferguson, inspired by "Pirates of the Caribbean" built only three instruments with this theme. One of the three is owned by Johnny Depp. Ren named this guitar "Skullduggery" according to the inside orange label. The serial, #00055009, is on the label as well as on a plaque on the neck block. Both the label and plaque are signed by Ren Ferguson. The back and sides are AAA quilt maple and the top is tight grain spruce. It has a gorgeous flame maple neck. The seven ply bound neck has an ebony fingerboard with twenty frets. Inlaid in the fretboard are seven silver coins each with a unique design. All the coins were inspired by vintage coins and designed by Ren Ferguson himself. Gold flakes are inlaid in the binding on the top, sides, back, neck, headstock as well in the rosette around the sound hole. There is an etched abalone skull and crossbones along with the Gibson logo on the headstock. A stunning hand carved 2 1/2" wide skull (with gold tooth) covers the heel of the guitar. Other features include custom gold Grover Imperial tuners with gray art deco buttons , a hand carved ebony bridge with dual etched skulls, a four ply beveled edge custom faux tortoise pick guard inlaid with a treasure chest, skeleton, and sword, and an abalone truss rod cover. This one of a kind instrument is in impeccable condition. It is the most exquisite museum quality instrument we have offered for sale. The guitar weighs 5.4 pounds. The scale length is 25 1/2" with a 1 12/16" nut. It comes with its original hardshell case with plush burgundy lining.
