Offered for sale:

Vintage 1965 Gibson Melody Maker D solid body electric guitar serial number 279321.

This guitar is in very good condition, neck and frets are fine. Cosmetically there are nicks and marks about the neck and body, finish wear from playing time, all to be expected from a great players guitar of the sixties.

The original wrap-around compensated bridge, which had too much wear at the saddles, has been replaced.

The Melody Maker was introduced as a high-quality student or amateur player's guitar, with many of the features of the company's more expensive solid-bodies. Costs were kept low by utilizing a single-layer pickguard, strip tuners, single-coil pickups with unshielded wiring, and narrow headstock with a decal logo, however the feel and playability are true to Gibson heritage.

Featuring a thin solid mahogany body and neck with the slimmer 1 5/8" nut width 1965 style. This twin-pickup guitar is the later style body, somewhat flatter and broader than the early Melody Makers produced through 1964. This style was only available in 1965, by early 1966 the Melody Maker was redesigned again to use the SG shape. This guitar has a stop tailpiece/bridge but only the vibrola spring base is still installed.

With a short production run of around 14 months, this version of the Melody Maker-D had close to 4500 shipped that year. Probably the single most famous MM-D is the '65 used by Eric Carmen in the Raspberries and subsequently owned and played by Joan Jett for the bulk of her career, which is refinished in white with two humbucking pickups.

Gibson gig bag included.

“We carefully inspect every instrument when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. We also do a full set up before we ship. If you decide to purchase this guitar, please let us know what gauge strings you prefer.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
