Offered here is one of our favorite Gibson models, a '63 ES 335 Block Reissue. This version of the '63 ES 335 was introduced in 2013 as their "50th Anniversary" model. It is (was) built much more like the original upon which it is based with a more accurate body shape, nylon saddles, constructed with natural hide glues, a lighter center block and it is given a VOS (light aging) treatment which makes it look, feel and play more like a vintage instrument. Gibson continued making this model until 2018 due to popular demand. With the closure of Gibson's original Memphis factory and the company's financial restructuring, however, this model is now out of production.
This particular example (serial number 31008) was built during the initial run in 2013. It has a medium C-shaped neck with depth measurements of .83" at the first fret increasing to .98" at the twelfth fret. It is one of the lightest of these that I've come across and weighs just 7.6 pounds. Other key specs include: a 24.75" string scale; a 1.70" nylon nut; a 12" radius fretboard made of nicely figured rosewood; Gibson's Burstbucker pickups; and an ABR-1 bridge with stop bar tailpiece. The guitar is finished in "Vintage Burst" nitrocellulose lacquer, with cream binding, aged hardware and the lightly aged VOS treatment.
Unlike most other 335 models, these guitars are so much more like the original Gibsons upon which they are based. This thing looks, feels and sounds like the real deal. It plays great too and has a superb, fat, woody humbucking tone, as evidenced by the included sound sample included in this listing. Please check it out.
This guitar is in "excellent minus" condition. Beyond the light (VOS) factory aging, upon very close inspection you will find some evidence of play including a few shallow impressions as shown in the included photos. Beyond this light wear, the guitar and the frets remain in excellent shape. It comes in the original black custom case with the era-correct gold lining, along with the certificate of authenticity.
This is one of the best versions of the iconic ES 335 ever made, so it is quite sad that this model is no longer in production. Make this extremely well-preserved example yours!
